So, effective next weekend, Scott and I will have been dating for 6 months! Yay!

This past weekend, I went north. We had debated about whether to head up to Beacon or to the shore, after plans to head up to Albany fell through. I was kinda sad that we decided just to stay in town UNTIL...

We went on three (yes, three) IKEA runs and bought 4 large Billy shelves, 1 smaller Billy shelf, and a bit of hardware and extra shelves to add a bit of space as manga tends to be smaller.

I can't wait to move in, especially knowing that we've gotten a good chunk of work done already. ^_^

So I put in my order for my cap and gown today...

I feel the impending (and really, just more formal) end to an era. :P

It is kinda odd. Every time I have gone downstairs in the evening, my roommate is crashed out on the couch. I'm always so afraid I'll wake him up...and even when I have, he doesn't go upstairs to sleep on the far more comfortable bed.

I think he really misses Crystal (his wife and my other roommate, who deployed to Iraq earlier this year).

I did my taxes today. Actually, I did a lot of stuff today: laundry, dishes, cooking, cleaning, taking out the trash, vacuuming, WoW, Phoenix Wright 2, talk to Mom, nap, talk to Jen (zOMG! JEN!), more WoW...

Tommorow, I have off of work for my 9*80 day off. I'm thinking very seriously about getting a new bedset...and LNT is having a sale, so I may as well go and look...which means Borders will tag team. :P I have some used books to sell off and a goodwill donation to make. I may also venture out to the Japanese restaurant that's in very short walking distance of my apartment...and mocks me with its yumminess...

Mmmmm...hibachi!

Posting for Great Justice! [Jan. 23rd, 2007|12:02 am]
Coming from a downer in receiving no positive response (when response was received at all) from the Federal side, I decided to take a look at the private sector to bulk up in my experience. Middle of last week I got an e-mail from the Forensic listserv. Most of what they sent is school related and so I don't care, but occasionally they send job info. They sent a job for an Investigative Research Analyst. Now assuming the job itself matches the pitch (which I have seen fail to happen a good many times), it starts in a capacity similar to now, working as a support staff to principals who are retired 15-25 year FBI Special Agents. You learn the ropes of investigation and the company helps you get your license to investigate solo. The benefits are also an improvement over the current job, and raises occur bi-annually.

I submitted a resume on Friday morning. On Monday afternoon, I was asked to come in for an interview on Wednesday.

Needless to say, I'm excited. I feel like my blood has been turning stale in the current job. Not that I don't like the people, but sometimes, I find it really difficult to get up in the morning, which I am told by many means it is time to move on. I still have a good many questions to ask, and if I like the job and want to be hired and pass the/this interview stage come Wednesday, then I'll probably post a good deal more.

In the meanwhile, I've been playing Burning Crusade like an addict. Check out the shiny!

[Jan. 14th, 2007|01:14 am]
I went out and ran some errands today, and decided to make a stop in Landmark Mall in Alexandria, VA. It is an older mall, but reminds me a lot of the one I frequented (for books and movies...I mean, c'mon this is me!) while growing up.

I went straight in to the Waldenbooks/Borders Express there. They had a sign announcing manga and sci-fi/fantasy books at buy 3 and get 1, so I couldn't not at least go in and check it out. While I was in there, perusing the manga...something on the floor caught my eye. I turned my head and looked to see a rat scurrying on the floor not 5-6 feet from me. My eyes widened and I kinda froze for a second. I wasn't the only one who spotted it; this guy who was perusing magazines saw as well. I went looking for a store clerk to let them know before I bailed, but only one guy was working with a whole line of customers. While I waited to let him know (because everyone in the line was female, and I wasn't sure how much the announcement of a rat would induce stereotypical panic), another two ladies in the back of the shop also saw a rat (possibly the same one), and then left rather quickly. Finally, the line cleared enough to let the clerk know.

Hopefully, they will fix this problem, because that's one of the best bookstores around to carry the new releases. I just know I won't be eating a thing that comes from that mall. If rats are moving the bookstore and are familiar enough with humans to come out in daylight...that sounds like a rather large-scale problem.

Happy New Year! [Dec. 31st, 2006|11:21 pm]
[Current Mood | content]

So, I had the opportunity to drive up to New York for the holiday, but unfortunately, the planning came too late and I had to make sure I could get the rent in before the 1st...and the roommates just got in early this afternoon after 4 of their flights were canceled. They were supposed to be in on Friday. And their luggage was lost, go figure. No, Scott, you're not allowed to complain. :P I was already miffed I didn't come anyways.

At least I've been spending my time productively. I have a few resolutions, but that always seems less than genuine as they never last. So instead, I made a list of things I want to do.

1. Start the new job. I am continuing to put resumes and applications in. Meanwhile, I'm simultaneously putting in the extra prep for the federal law enforcement job that has been really appealing to me.

2. Dance. Or at least as in the words of Alison Jiear in "Jerry Springer, the Opera": I just wanna dance. I just wanna fucking dance! I did very well after being suckered into dancing for the current agencies Christmas party. They shoved me up in front of the VTC camera...and sent the to all the offices (in DC and about 3-4 other locations). And they recorded it. I was complimented by many people, which was nice...but it made me get the dancing bug again. So now, I'm looking at Bellydancing, Irish Dance, and Ballroom. Thankfully, this location offers a few good options.

3. Hiking. My Aunt put this bug in my ear this past year. I used to do a lot of camping and hiking when I was young, and unfortunately, that's gone to the way side.

4. Get rid of the credit card debt. I've still been working off the surprise computer purchase from this past summer.

5. Go to all of the Smithsonian museums. I never know when I may find a job that asks me to move from this area, so I really should take advantage of the ever changing historical exhibits while I have the chance to do it cheaply. :P

6. More road trips! ^_-

Meanwhile, I'll sit here with my bottle of Asti and watch Lady in the Water. :P Hope everyone is having a wonderful start to the New Year!

Sorry, guys. [Dec. 27th, 2006|08:19 am]
Money is a bit tighter than I'd like. That and the fact that I haven't heard a thing from either of my roommates in about a week and a half, I am really anxious. So I really hate to do this, but I'm going to have to call off my trip to Bloomington until I can get a handle on the situation. I think the best time may be after spring break at IU, once midterm season has come and gone.

I don't know why, but everyone here keeps asking what I've done with my hair. Or my face. Or my purfume.

Correct answer: nothing. I really haven't. The only thing that makes today different was that I had gone to bed so early that I woke up at 4:30 am...and couldn't go back to sleep. -_-

The irony of course being that when I do something, no one ever notices. (Unless it involves a skirt. :P )

General quickie update [Oct. 2nd, 2006|02:07 am]
Life has been a little more interesting lately. :P

I had a very nice date on Friday. Then on Saturday, I went to the Maryland Renaissance Faire Saturday and met up with [info]cremlian and a few others I had only met briefly at Otakon, and signed my new lease paperwork on Sunday. The move starts on Thursday, possibly as early as Wednesday, if I can get my keys. I'm still poring through job listings for a job I will enjoy and actively bidding to get my pay increased (as it should be considering my clearance level and shiny new Masters degree) so I can get a better sense of the pay scale I should be earning.

I've also started recently playing World of Warcraft. But I don't think I've completely dropped off the face of the earth like several of you decided I would. :P

My only complaint has been recent muscle aches, which may have just stemmed from all the walking I did Saturday. WoW does not promote active behaviors, so I've been a bit more lax about getting into shape. I really either need to start eating better (which I think having a military roommate will help with) or make a better effort to exercise. Possibly both. The other positive is that there is a nice Fitness Center just behind the apartment itself, and a shopping center with a grocery store about 3-4 blocks walking distance, so I can reasonably keep up on milk, eggs, fresh fruit and veggies, etc and coerce myself into more activity.

Now, since the geek quotient of this post is not yet full, some youtube-age: Say what you will about the Drew Carey show...but they had some awesome music and dance sequences back in the day.

So, the Jenny goes overseas tommorrow for a whole year. You know what that means...

NO KOALAS!

:P

Have fun, Jen. Enjoy your get out of Indiana/away from crazy family free card. And don't drink too heavily.

My name is not "hun" or "babe" or "sweetheart". In fact, call me "sweetie pie" and I WILL deck you.

I might not mind one or two of those if I was dating you. In fact, I'd probably blush like crazy if I was called anything of that ilk by someone I did/do like.

But frankly, I am not now, nor ever going to lower my standards to your level.

So, today is the final exam of my acedemic career. Two more hours until it starts and then all will be said and done by 11:30 am. Regardless of when I'm all done, I will be home by noonish.

I may take a short nap as I am a little tired, but I'd really like to spend this weekend visiting with a few of the local folks. Hit me by e-mail or cell and let me know where/when you'd like to hang out. I probably won't be doing too much to save up some energy for next weekend. (FISHY FISHY!) ^_^

20 days left until school ends. Still doesn't seem real and certainly not sinking in yet. Possibly because it isn't all said and done just yet. I still have one last paper to finish, 10 hours of class time (in 2 sessions), and a final essay exam.

In other news, Einstein was a player. Must have been the hair. :P

On the postive side, my bag has been found and it has been picked up from DCA. However, I don't know when it will actually be delivered. >_>

If I'm feeling alive enough when work ends, I may go and see the Man of Steel. I suppose it really depends on what all drama may ensue between now and then. I think I generated enough drama on Monday to last me for weeks, so I'd like it nice and relatively quiet for a bit.

My lovely 7:22 am flight to DCA has been cancelled...and they could not bother to inform until we were standing in line. I could tell you how much it blows that I have to sit around the airport and pay airport prices all day....but my friends, Mr. Cinnabon and Mr. Wireless, have been helping me cope and de-drama.

I can only hope that the rescheduled flights will go off without a hitch...

Meanwhile...I have all of two hours of sleep, and I'm running low on the daytime cold meds.... -_-
